this is the rebuilding of the former Dieppe Raid Mod-site at "http://members.nbci.com/WPinkhof/uk.htm" of 1999:
The CC2 - Dieppe Raid patch
The patch was made by David Bourchanin from France and Wouter Pinkhof from Belgium in 1999. They had teamed up to deliver new maps to the CC2 gaming community. The rebuilding of the site and the republishing of the patch is done with their explicit permission. Don't forget: the copyright of the patch belong to the original authors. This is what they wrote on their former homepage:
David handles the graphics beautifully, whilst Wouter does the coding work. Over the last few months we have worked together to produce a patch aimed at playing the raid on Dieppe on August 19th 1942.
A bit of history
On August 19th, 1942, a combined forced of Canadian units (infantry and armoured), some British Royal Marine Commando's and Royal Navy ships, as well as some RAF fighter-bombers launched an attack on the French port of Dieppe. About 6000 men landed on the beaches. At the end of the day, 900 men had been killed on the Allied side, many more taken prisoner, and some managed to make their way back to England. The Dieppe Raid was over.
Some say the battle was sheer suicide, others say it taught Allied commanders how to tackle the main attack on Continental Europe, some two years later (D-Day, operation Overlord). The Canadian forces eventually came back to liberate Dieppe in 1944, as well as most of the coastal areas of Northern France, Belgium and the Southern part of the Netherlands. Canadian units are honoured throughout this whole area, and many are the villages along the coast that have avenues and streets named after them.
Thank you's

We have tried to make our patch as realistically as possible (but we have taken some liberties). That meant a lot of research into the units involved, the actual layout of Dieppe in 1942, the shape of the main buildings etc... We wish to thank a number of people specifically for helping us out. Our apologies to those we forgot:
The files
There are four maps in this patch. The Dieppe maps are based on factual data from Dieppe (maps, pictures). The Berneval map is pure fiction, but helped us build a campaign containing 4 maps. We have split up the patch into 7 separate zip files, so the download process remains manageable. Together, they are just over 28 MB! If you find this too big to download, contact Wouter and we can see if we can sort out alternatives through CD-Rom (you will have to cover the cost of burning the CD-Rom and mailing it, but we will not be charging for the files). Downloading is, however, our preferred approach. The files work for both the Windows and the MacOS versions of CC2.
We have tweaked a great number of things, but left other elements unchanged, since some of it is hardcoded in the CC2 engine. Enjoy discovering what we have changed.
Here are the files you need:
Datafiles (138 kB)
Gadget files (982 kB)
Interface file (1 228 kB)
|
Dieppe Harbour map (6 507 kB) |
Berneval map (7 400 kB) |

Dieppe Casino map (6 810 kB) |
Dieppe Town map (5 959 kB) |

Terrain-file (MacOS & PC) (192 KB, added by Mafi, October 10th, 2002: Canadian flags at the VL's - link updated!).
We would appreciate you sent us an e-mail when you download the files. Mainly for reasons of support, since we had a few problems that are now hopefully solved. If we know our user community, we can warn you by e-mail for any updates. Any other feedback is also appreciated any time, so feel free to shoot us a message:

The ReadMe file of the CC2-Dieppe patch:
"Dieppe Raid patch" by David Bourchanin and Wouter Pinkhof
This is the "readme" for the set of files provided in the 7 zip files of the Dieppe Raid patch download. The names of the files are:
- Datafiles.zip
- graphics (gadget files).zip
- graphics (interface file).zip
- graphics maps (map100).zip
- graphics maps (map101).zip
- graphics maps (map102).zip
- graphics maps (map103).zip
Warning: these files, when installed, will change the looks, maps, operations, campaigns and units in CC2. If you want to keep the original files, you can copy them to a temporary directory. Or you can always copy them back from the CC2 CD-rom.
Instructions for installing :
1. You need a full install of CC2 in order to be able to use this patch.
2. Unzip Datafiles.zip to a temporary directory. This will result in a number of new zip files. The name of each zip file indicates where the files need to end up when extracted. Example: The files contained in Data_ops_10.zip need to be in directory "A Bridge Too Far\data\ops\10" of your CC2 program.
3. Unzip graphics (gadget files).zip and graphics (interface file).zip to the "A Bridge Too Far\graphics" directory
4. Unzip the graphics maps (mapxxx).zip files to the "A Bridge Too Far\graphics\maps" directory
5. You can play the Dieppe Harbour, Dieppe Casino, Dieppe Town or Berneval battles, the Red Beach or White Beach operations or the whole Dieppe campaign.

How to install and use Maps or Mods for CC2 under MacOS:
1. Take your original CD.
2. Place it your CD-ROM-drive.
3. Install the program on your harddisk (small install).
4. To use Mods it is not necessary to change the installed files.
5. Replace the main program "A Bridge Too Far" with the updated version found on the web site
of Microsoft (version 2.0b).
6. Increase the memory for "A Bridge Too Far" from 19408 KB up to 48000 KB if you want to
use very large new maps like the "Airfield"-map by Adam "The Man" D'arcy or my map "FireBaseCC2".
7. Create an uncompressed disk image file from the original CD using "Disk Copy" or something
else. Be sure not to make it read only. The volume's name must remain "Close Combat".
8. Place the Mod-Files at the correct places on this image as described in the author's ReadMe-files.
9. Strip all "LF"-chars from the "TXT"-files of the Mod, if they are coming from PC´s.
10. Remove the original CD from your CD-ROM-drive.
11. Leave the disk image mounted (activated).
12. Start the main program "A Bridge Too Far" from the harddisk.
13. If the program asks for movie-files (xxxxxxx.mpg not found), press the "abort"-button and
click the mouse or double-click it. Even if the program asks for the CD in the SCSI-drive press
the "abort"-button. Do not make a search, it will fail!
14. The program now will start, showing the new maps (or battles, campaigns), when you scroll
down through the menu. Not replaced old maps will be also shown.
15. Select in the "Preferences"-option "Videos off", and you will be no longer asked for the CD or
movies, but now the intro-picture will be displayed starting the game next time.
16. If you run into error message "out of command space", quit the program, quit all other applications except of the Finder and then start the program ABTF again.
17. After finishing the game, you can delete the disk image or leave it for the next day, DO NOT
MAKE ILLEGAL COPIES OF THE SOFTWARE.
